The Void Playlist – Workout Tunes

The Void Playlist - Workout Tunes

Is it your mission to do more exercise?

The start of the year usually sees alcohol sales go down and gym membership subscriptions go up. But three weeks in, you may have come to the conclusion that working out is a) hard, b) overcrowded and c) pretty dull.

Don’t give up just yet though. Find a little inspiration in the form of music. Consisting of 10 songs over 40 minutes, our playlist has been designed and tested to help motivate you through the sweat-fest.

There’s no Olivia Newton-John, no Eye of the Tiger. Just good solid tunes.

What’s on the playlist?

1. LCD Soundsystem – Get Innocuous!
Every workout needs a decent warm up. The gradual build up on this banger should have your temperature rising by the time it reaches its peak.

2. The Chemical Brothers – Galvanize
Altogether now: ‘don’t hold back… cause you woke up in the morning with initiative to move, so why make it harder?’ In other words: ‘it’s your arse, you move it.’

3. Beastie Boys – Body Movin’
If you’re still bone dry then you’re clearly not working hard enough. Follow the tempo of these boys and you’ll soon be sweating in places you didn’t know existed.

4. Missy Elliot – Lose Control (feat. Ciara & Fat Man Scoop)
This fairly typical Misdemeanour track wins a place on our playlist thanks to its awesome Cybotron sample and Fat Man Scoop’s role as military-style motivator.

5. Moby – Bodyrock
You may think you’ve reached your limit, but there’s always a little extra to give. The urgency in Bodyrock will help you dig deep to find it.

6. Groove Armada – Love Sweet Sound (feat. Candi Staton)
You’ve past the half way mark. Now let the pure gold of Candi Staton giving it some rocket you past the pain barrier.

7. Azealia Banks – 212
It’s the ultimate workout tune. And just when you might need it too. At this point, it’s not about pushing the pace; it’s about managing to keep it going.

8. Emeli Sande – Heaven
Ignore the lyrics. It’s those soaring strings, pressing drum’n’bass beats and rich horn blasts that’ll be cheering you towards victory.

9. Roots Manuva – Witness (1 Hope)
You’re almost there. Just ride the rolling bass of this Brit-Hop classic and those endorphins should (finally) kick in.

10. Amerie – Gotta Work
Yes it’s a bit naff. But it’s also the song most likely to push you to the very end. And that final brass note will be the best thing you hear all day.

Sound good? Try it in your next session: follow playlist
