Rock Werchter is going to be amazing

To me, music festivals are like supermarket bargains.

The opportunity to see a range of artists and bands at one event for one ticketed price instead of several £50 instalments is like finding one of those wacky ‘buy one, get two free’ offers. So every year I sit down and peruse the line-ups of the UK’s top festivals before deciding which one is most worth spending a month’s wages on.

Rock Werchter 2010

The usual winners are V Fest and Reading simply because of their location (after checking out the music on offer of course) so you can imagine how amazing the line-up for the festival I’m about to tell you about is. Did I mention it was in Belgium?

Rock Werchter is one of the five biggest annual rock festivals in Europe, (the other four being Oxegen, Glasto, Sziget and Roskilde) based in the village of Werchter, near Leuven. The festival has boasted incredible line-ups since it first began in 1974 (and received the European Festival Award for best line-up last year!) and this year’s, which takes place between Thursday 28 June and Sunday 1 July, does not disappoint.

The four-day event will see a range of artists from around the globe perform, from Snow Patrol, The Cure and two-time Brit award winner Ed Sheeran to the Red Hot Chili Peppers and pop punk kings, Blink-182. French house band Justice and Canadian dubstep favourite, Deadmau5 are set to headline on the Thursday and Friday respectively and Belgium’s very own Netsky and dEUS are sure to deliver a spectacular set in their home country.

The festival is set across three stages including the Main Stage, the Pyramid Marquee and the Barn. Other big names due across the weekend on the Main Stage include the Editors, Kasabian, Florence + The Machine and Pearl Jam as well as Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Chase & Status and Elbow. The Pyramid Marquee will see the likes of Katy B, Calvin Harris and Skrillex perform and the more intimate Barn will be host to favourites like The Kooks, Noah and the Whale and James Morrison. Belgium sensation Milow and two time EBBA award winner Selah Sue will also be performing in the Barn.

Of course, these acts are just a handful of the amazing performers that will be sure to make Rock Werchter 2012 a hit and maintain its name as one of the world’s greatest festivals.
