This year sees stylish boutique festival Winterwell return for its sixth consecutive year.
The event takes place between 29 June and 1 July in a secret location in the Cotswolds which is only revealed upon the purchase of tickets. With this year’s theme being the Old West, Winterwell promises to be bigger and better than ever.
Fancy dress is fundamental to Winterwell and will require cowboys and Indians, frontier folk, dancing girls, bounty hunters, Mexicans, men of God, livestock and – of course – the town drunk, all partaking in fancy drinking, fancy dancing and the fancy dress parade on the hillsides lined with prospectors’ gold. The area will be transformed into a frontier town for three days and will host an incredible line-up of music ranging from folk, swing, rock n roll, and ska to funk, house and electro.
This year, Moshi Moshi Records (home of Florence + The Machine) will be hosting the main stage on the Saturday. Bands due to perform across the weekend include Casiokids, London Afro beat, Dollar Bill, Passanger, Left With Pictures and many more. Also set to keep everyone moving are a range of DJs from The Nextmen and DJ’s Slim and Slim to Kid Fiesta and Lou Young.
Of course, those that know Winterwell, know that it isn’t just about the music. The Medium Rare show will be taking place this year, offering a variety of performances including cabaret, comedy, opera and even magic. The event will also be hosting the The Winterwell Feast; a three-course sit-down meal served by Greengages’ head chef. Tickets are £27.50 and are not yet on sale.
Proving itself as a family festival, A Town Called Winterwell will be offering a Kids Ranch which will keep children entertained with a fun array of games, sing-a-longs, obstacle courses and hoe downs. Other highlights include a fancy dress parade, night woodland trail and the obligatory Sunday 5-a-side football tournament.
The Golden Lotus Healing Field will be making its Winterwell debut this year and will bring a mix of shiatsu, five element aromatherapy, deep tissue massage, tai chi and yoga workshops and plenty more ways to relax throughout the weekend. This year also sees the arrival of the ‘Extreme Comfy Camping’ luxury camping area with bell tents and teepees available for hire.
Winterwell is definitely the feel-good festival; its main priority being the comfort of its guests. There will be no long hikes, long endless queues and an abundant supply of delicious food and drink to enjoy throughout the weekend, all based in a beautiful, idyllic setting. For those that love festivals but also love relaxing, Winterwell is the one to mark on your calendar.
