Review: Stewart Lee – Carpet Remnant World

Written by: Philip Beel

Few comedians could construct a routine around the derogatory comments made about them on the internet.

However, this does not deter alternative comedy genius Stewart Lee. In his latest offering, Carpet Remnant World.

Not one to shy away from ‘edgy’ subject matter, Stewart Lee’s latest stand-up tour covers all manner of topics from the decline of the UK’s rope bridge building industry, to Islam and the state of mainstream comedy stand-up.

Although the new tour has an obscure title and set design, the routine feels very familiar to Lee’s trademark callback structure, in which he chooses to marginalise certain areas of the audience for comic effect. This leads to an extremely well-crafted piece of stand-up whereby ideals and concepts can be explored in the satirical styling synonymous with Stewart Lee.

This is a refreshing show, which you will not regret seeing (unless you are a right wing religious American).

Stewart Lee’s tour continues until June 24, 2012, for the full list of venues and times check out his site.
