BOOK: Roger's Profanisaurus – The Magna Farta
Every year at Christmas, publishers print a flurry of amusing or silly books designed to provide some form of amusement on Christmas Day between the dinner and the four hours of Only Fools and Horses repeats. You know, that hazy period of time before Gran goes to bed and Die Hard 4 can get a viewing. Thankfully, the boys at Viz, that Great British magazine which prides itself on being offensive, crude, naughty and the UK’s most pant-pissingly funny publication, have decided to help you survive Christmas this year by releasing the updated Roger’s Profanisaurus for you and your family’s reading pleasure.
Now in its fourth incarnation, Roger’s Profanisaurus – The Magna Farta offers an easy way to discover new and varied swears from all around our fair country. Boasting over 10,000 rude words and phrases, the book introduces you to such delights as a ‘Fulham handshake’, to ‘crash a yoghurt truck’ and ‘Keith Burtons’, the definitions of which, for reasons which will become clear when you inevitably look them up in the book, we can’t type here.
Despite looking like something that school kids might snigger at during a lunch break, this book does genuinely have some very clever turns of phrase, and clearly many years work has gone into not just compiling this book, but also inventing phrases which have a modern reference point. Of course this can lead to some phrases becoming more out of date than others, but with the magazine itself dedicating several pages to new entries every month, its clear to see that this will not be too much of an issue.
It probably goes without saying that if you have already purchased one of the previous copies, there is little need to replace your old copy unless it has been destroyed in some hilarious experiment with jump leads and a frog. However, if you are quite posh and want to sound more like a builder, or are from Romford and want to sound more articulate in order to chat to more women, this book could be the answer.
